The 2024 Blue Devil Classic, hosted at Jersey Lanes in Linden, NJ, brought together 19 boys/coed teams and five all-girls teams for a thrilling day of competition. With powerhouse programs such as St. Joseph's (Metuchen) (#1), Woodbridge (#10), Morris Hills (#15), and Bayonne (#18) in attendance, the tournament promised high-level play
and did not disappoint.

Delbarton's Varsity Bowling team rose to the challenge, delivering their best finish of the season so far with a remarkable 2nd place and a total score of 2869. This achievement reflects the team's resilience and ability to perform under pressure.

Team Performance Highlights

• The tournament was a story of steady improvement and grit for Delbarton.
• The team began the day with an 898 in Game 1, placing them 7th.
• A much-improved 962 in Game 2 moved them up to 4th, positioning the team within striking distance of the podium.
• In Game 3, the team delivered their strongest performance of the day with a 1009, propelling them into 2nd place.

This late surge underscores the team's competitive spirit and determination to finish strong against a highly skilled field.

Individual Highlights

Several bowlers had standout performances that contributed to the team's success:

• Cole Dionyssiou: Posted a 533 series, with a high game of 193.
• Dylan Scarpati: Set a new personal best series of 596, anchored by a high game of 226.
• Connor Tyrone: Contributed two games of record, scoring 184 and 197.
• Steven Corcoran: Bowled a solid 539 series, including a high game of 187.
• Matt Tyrone: Played a key supporting role with a single game of record, scoring 155.
• Captain David Reale: Opened the tournament with a 169 but rallied to bowl back-to-back 248s, closing the day with an impressive 665 series. In Game 3.  Reale carried a 280 opportunity into the ninth frame before having to convert a tough split to save his 248.

Looking Ahead

With this strong showing, Delbarton has cemented itself as a team to watch this season.  This week, the team faces two key matches, including one against #15-ranked Morris Hills, providing another opportunity to test their mettle. The team faces Chatham at Boonton Lanes on Tuesday, before the week culminates with the NJAC Tournament on Friday at Rockaway Lanes, where Delbarton will aim to build on their momentum and continue their pursuit of excellence.
