The 2025 Morris County Championship at Rockaway Lanes brought together 14 teams for a thrilling day of competition. Delbarton's Varsity Bowling team rose to the occasion, capturing the Morris County title after an intense qualifying round and Baker playoff format.
Team Performance
The tournament began with a three-game qualifying round, where Delbarton finished 4th with a total score of 2789, securing the final spot in the Baker playoffs. The top four teams advancing were Kinnelon (3198), Morris Hills (2859), Chatham (2813), and Delbarton (2789).
• Game 1: Delbarton started strong, placing 2nd with a score of 1016, led by key performances from Cole Dionyssiou and Matt Tyrone.
• Game 2: The team slipped to 3rd with a total of 1904, but clutch contributions from Matt Tyrone and David Reale kept them in contention.
• Game 3: Delbarton held on to 4th place, finishing the round with 2789, as nearly clean games from Cole (199), Steven (194), and David (205) sealed their spot in the playoffs, holding off Morris Knolls (2742), Jefferson (2738), and Montville (2734).
Baker Playoffs
In the semifinals, Delbarton faced top-seeded Kinnelon in a best-of-three series:
• Game 1: A tough loss (181-162) put Delbarton in an early hole. • Game 2: The team responded with a dominant 200-147 win, capitalizing on Kinnelon's missed frames.
• Game 3: Delbarton sealed the upset with a strong 207-170 victory.
In the finals, Delbarton faced Chatham, who had eliminated Morris Hills with back-to back 233s.
• Game 1: A narrow loss (155-147) put Delbarton on the defensive again. • Game 2: The team rallied with a clutch 173-155 win.
• Game 3: Delbarton stayed composed to finish strong with another 173-155 game, clinching the Morris County Championship.
Individual Highlights
• Cole Dionyssiou: Clean 248 in Game 1, including five strikes in the late frames. • Matt Tyrone: Scored 223 in Game 1 and a clean 214 in Game 2.
• David Reale: Delivered consistent performances, including a clean 194 in Game 2 and a 205 in Game 3. David also bowled six perfect frames in the Baker Playoffs against Kinnelon with eight strikes and two spares over his six frames.
Looking Ahead
With the NJAC Championship and now the Morris County title in hand, Delbarton heads into its busiest week of the season. The team faces four matches against top competition, starting with a rematch against Chatham on Monday at Boonton Lanes and ending with Senior Night on Friday against Seton Hall Prep.
