On a cold October evening at Mount Olive High School, the Delbarton soccer team defeated a strong Morris Hills team 5-1 in the Morris County Tournament semifinals, advancing to the MCT final on Saturday, October 22. 202
The Green Wave came out strong in the first half,
Nate Zimmermann '23 got the scoring started from a shot well outside the 18 yard box on a feed from
Shea Coughlin '24 in the 27th minute.
Luca Tusche '23 doubled the score with a long range effort two minutes later to put Delbarton ahead 2-0. The first half onslaught would not stop there,
Giuseppe Milelli '24 would make it 3-0 off a cross from
Gianni Crawford '23 and
Andrew Casiano '24 would score two minutes later in the first half off a beautifully placed corner from
Joshwin Jennings '23.
Parker Smith '23 was solid in goal in the first half, making a big save on a break away to keep Morris Hills off the scoreboard early in the half. With Delbarton leading 4-0 in the second half, Morris Hills would finally break through in the 52nd minute, but
Kyle Son '25 would seal the victory in the 76th minute off an assist from
Giuseppe Milelli '24. The Green Wave put 10 shots on goal Tuesday afternoon, and
Parker Smith and
James Anroman combined for a one-save victory.
Delbarton returns to the Morris County Tournament title game, looking for its first county title championship since 2019. The Green Wave will face Mendham on Saturday night at Roxbury High School. Delbarton has defeated Mendham twice this season, 3-0 on the road and a 1-0 overtime victory on October 6. The game kicks off at 5pm this Saturday.
