The 2022 soccer season came to a close on Saturday, November 5 as the Green Wave lost a heartbreaker to #2 seed Bergen Catholic 1-0 in Oradell.
The Green Wave came out ready to play, and dominated the first half of the game. Most of the first half saw Delbarton attacking the ball, taking possession and creating key scoring opportunities. Standing out in the first half was the play of
Joshwin Jennings. Joshwin was all over the field, making big plays, creating scoring chances for himself and the other attackers. Just before the half, Jennings almost put the Green Wave up 1-0 when his shot from 10 yards away rang off the lower crossbar, but did not go in the net. The teams went to the half with a 0-0 tie. Â
The second half saw more of the same, with Delbarton hitting the post once again, but unable to put one past the keeper. Bergen Catholic got on the board first in the 60th minute as they snuck one passed a diving
Parker Smith for a 1-0 lead. Both teams would fight hard in the second half, with Delbarton getting another scoring opportunity, but the
Nate Zimmermann goal was called off due to an unintentional handball call, nullifying the tying goal. Delbarton kept the pressure on late in the game, but were unable to get one to go in, dropping a very close, well played game 1-0. Â
Despite the loss, the team had a fantastic season, earning NJAC conference co-champions and a Morris County Tournament title. Congrats to Dr. Donovan and all the coaches and athletes for another great season at Ryan Field and we look foward to a bright future ahead for the soccer program.
