It has been quite the season for the freshman basketball team, currently 17-0, with 6 games left on the schedule.  However, the boys added another tournament title on Saturday, defeating Montville 70-51, en route to a Morris Knolls Freshman Basketball Invitational title.

The tournament began in mid-January, with Delbarton defeating Hanover Park 80-27 in the opening round.  The boys then played a tough Chatham squad, winning 55-45 in a very close contest.  Delbarton would go on to defeat Mendham 52-39 in the semifinal on February 1, setting up a championship matchup with Montville.  Delayed one day due to weather, the boys took on Montville and came out strong, winning by 19 points over a talented Montville team.  Luke Azzinaro led the team in scoring during the tournament, chipping in with 13 points in Saturday's win.  Patrick Mahoney has been a constant contributor to the Green Wave's success this season, chipping in with 6 rebounds in the final.  Lucas Cardinale had 13 pts for Delbarton in the title game, while Andrew Chobor was the floor general for Delbarton, leading the boys with 5 assists.  

The team shot 62% from the field in the final, including 50% (7/14) from 3-point range!  Says head coach Rich Peterson, "We continue to play great team basketball on both ends of the court, featuring a stifling defense and efficient offense where any number of guys could be our leading scorer on a given night.  We really play a team-style of ball where everybody is working in unison on both offense and defense, and that's probably the hallmark of our team"
