Anchored by a big 5-0 win on Wednesday, the Delbarton Soccer Program had a very successful day against Montville High School, defeating the Mustangs 6-1 in freshman game, 3-0 in the JV game and 5-0 in the varsity match on Ryan Family Field.
The Green Wave varsity team, debuting their sharp new black kit, scored early and often in the first half vs. Montville, taking a 4-0 lead into the half, finishing off the Mustangs 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Captain
Shea Coughlin '24 led the way for Delbarton, scoring a hat trick within the first 10 minutes of play.Â
Giuseppe Milelli found an open Coughlin sprinting down the middle of the field and Coughlin put one past the goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead 4 minutes into the first. Coughlin scored again in the 8th minute tapping in a shot from
Liam McElderry for the 2-0 lead. Coughlin would complete the hat trick two minutes later, stealing a pass at midfield and taking it all the way for the 3-0 Delbarton lead.
Will Pedicano would net his second of the season in the 30th minute, ripping a shot past the keeper off a great feed from
Tierney Vesey. The second half saw many of the starters getting a much needed rest, but the deep bench for Dr. Donovan worked hard in the second half, with
Tierney Vesey scoring in the 60th minute after some beautiful footwork around the Mustang defense. The five goals were more than enough for senior
Reid Comeaux, making his first start of the season, earning his first varsity shutout of the season. Playing on back-to-back days, Comeaux kept the game out of reach with four saves in the victory.
The boys now have a much needed rest before a rematch against Morris Hills on Monday, October 2. Game time is set for 4pm at Morris Hills. The Green Wave return to Ryan Family Field on October 4th against Randolph. Green Wave Sports Network has you covered with livestreaming beginning at 4pm.
