Delbarton Soccer showed grit and resilience in Tuesday's Morris County Tournament quarterfinal, rallying for a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Morris Knolls to advance to the semifinal round.
Morris Knolls struck early when Jackson Robinson put the Golden Eagles ahead just five minutes into the match, chipping a shot over the keeper for the early 1-0 lead. Despite trailing for most of the game, Delbarton stayed composed and controlled possession, generating several quality chances.
After a number of quality chances in the second half, the Green Wave finally broke through in the 73rd minute when Cortland Martin cut into the side of the box, made a quick cut back and buried the equalizer off a feed from Aidan Abere. Just four minutes later, the duo linked up again—this time with Martin assisting Dylan Mazzarella, who ripped the game-winner in the 77th minute to complete the comeback.
Delbarton finished with nine shots on goal, and goalkeeper Vayun Swamy came up big with several key saves to preserve the win.
With the victory, Delbarton advances to face Chatham in the Morris County Tournament semifinal on Saturday at Mt. Olive.
