The Green Wave Varsity Soccer team dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 semifinal to Chatham, ending Delbarton's three-year reign as county tournament champions.
Delbarton and Chatham played a very close first half, at Mount Olive, with both teams producing a number of quality scoring chances. However, it would be Ryan Hoffelder from Chatham who would strike first, as he broke passed the Delbarton defense off a goal kick and took advantage, putting a shot past keeper
Vayun Swamy for the 1-0 lead.
That lead would stay throughout the game, despite a number of quality chances for the Green Wave. With 27:37 remaining, Delbarton had a quality scoring chance as
Peter Wynne raced down the left side but could not produce a quality shot. Delbarton would continue to push the tempo and try to produce quality chances but keeper Jack Paone was solid in goal, making 7 saves in the shutout victory. Â
Delbarton finishes off the regular season against Sparta on Wednesday, then two home matches against Roxbury and Mount Olive before turning its attention to the NJSIAA Non Public tournament.
