The Green Wave battled hard in back-to-back contests this week but came up short in narrow losses to Randolph and Mendham, moving their season record to 7-3-1.
On September 29 against Mendham, the Green Wave once again found themselves in a back-and-forth battle. Mendham's Kamran Basar opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but Matt Brusco answered in the 30th to send the game to halftime tied 1-1. Early in the second half, Brusco struck again in the 56th minute on a feed from Aidan Abere to give Delbarton a 2-1 lead. Mendham responded with goals from Vinny Mosso in the 67th and Teo Valianatos in the 79th to pull out a 3-2 win.
Two days later, Delbarton fell 2-1 on the road at Randolph. The Rams struck twice in the first half, with Julian Hernandez scoring in the 11th minute and Andrei Nitulescu adding another in the 25th to build a 2-0 lead. The Green Wave pushed forward in the second half, breaking through in the 77th minute when Peter Wynne found the back of the net off a setup from Matt Brusco. Despite late pressure, Delbarton couldn't find the equalizer.
With a much-needed rest ahead, the Green Wave return to action on Tuesday in the opening round of the Morris County Tournament.
