On a chilly but beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Green Wave football team defeated Pope John 37-19 for a well deserved homecoming 2022 victory! With thousands of visitors on campus, and a packed house in the brand new Regan Stadium bleachers, the Green Wave did not disappoint, sending our fans home happy with a decisive win, improving to 3-3 on the year.
Ryan Trafford '24 led the way for the offense, rushing 23 times for 118 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Robert Russo '23 opened the scoring on the opening drive by running it in from 3 yards out to give Delbarton a 7-0 lead. Pope John took advantage of two first-half fumbles and converted both turnovers into touchdowns to take the lead 12-7 midway through the second quarter. The Green Wave rebounded when Trafford took a 14 yard rush into the endzone.
Tyler DaSilva '24 intercepted a pass that led to a Jark Peros '23 36-yard field goal with seconds remaining in the 1st half to put Delbarton up 17-12 at the half.
Pope John would respond to open the second half, taking an early lead in the 3rd quarter on a 10 yard touchdown pass, but the Green Wave would respond once again.
Jack Eisenhardt '23 pinned Pope John deep on a punt and the defense forced a three and out. Kyle Checcio '25 had the play of the day when he broke through the Pope John line and blocked the punt in the endzone.
John Riley '24 jumped on the loose ball for a touchdown to give Delbarton the lead 23-19 and the Green Wave never looked back.

Austen Kivler '24 from 21 yards out to put Delbarton up 30-19 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Ryan Trafford sealed the win with a 3-yard touchdown run in the 4th for the final 37-19 score.
Wit this win, Delbarton has now won three-in-a-row and evened its record at 3-3. Delbarton will take on Hudson Catholic next Saturday, October 15 at Regan Stadium. Kick off is set for 1:00pm.
