Baseball season is upon us and the Green Wave return to Fleury Field, taking on some of New Jersey's top baseball programs.  

The varsity Green Wave went 17-8 last season, winning the Morris County Tournament and advancing to the Non Public A North final against St. Joseph's Montvale.  This season, the boys are back with a solid core of offensive talent and many new faces in the dugout for Bruce Shatel and co.  The team's biggest strength coming in to the season is easily its defense.  With many returning starters, the Green Wave have played solid defensively this spring and look to continue as the regular season kicks off.  Senior captains Connor Dreyer and Pauli Mattiola look to lead the team while the team returns just 7 players from last year including Dreyer, Rob Russo, Kevin Hager, Marco Maselli, Matt Dahl, Mattiola and Zach McBride, while welcoming a number of sophomores and juniors to the roster.

The biggest issue the team faces early in the season is the lack of varsity experience.  Assistant coach Tony Negrin says, "As everyone knows, the pace of the varsity game picks up immensely, so the coaching staff is anticipating that the team will take some time adjusting to the speed of the game."  That being said, the team looks to remain competitive throughout the entirety of the season. "As a coaching staff, we believe that if our team commits to learning each day, playing the game fast and with purpose each practice and game, then we can have a successful season," says Negrin.  "Even though we are young, we have a group of individuals who care about team success and are yearning to compete daily."

Delbarton opens the season on April 1 against Pope John at 4pm on Brian Fleury Field.  Good luck against Pope John and Roll Wave!
