Delbarton Baseball Wins Non Public A Sectional Title

The Delbarton baseball team captured the 2026 NJSIAA Non-Public A North Championship in dominant fashion, winning three straight postseason games by a combined score of 29-4 to earn a spot in Wednesday's Non-Public A State Championship Game against St. Augustine Prep at Rutgers University.

After receiving a first-round bye, the Green Wave opened sectional play on May 28 with a commanding 16-3 victory over Paramus Catholic in the quarterfinal round. Delbarton's offense erupted early and often, setting the tone for a postseason run that showcased both explosive hitting and outstanding pitching.

The semifinal round on June 2 featured one of Delbarton's most complete performances of the season as the Green Wave blanked longtime rival Seton Hall Prep, 2-0, behind a masterful outing from senior pitcher John Fedun.

Fedun delivered arguably his best start of his varsity career, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits. The left-hander struck out five, walked none, and kept the Pirates off balance throughout the afternoon.

Delbarton scratched across the only runs it would need behind timely hitting. Lorenzo Maselli paced the offense with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, while Sal Garcia went 1-for-3 and scored a run. Finn O'Loughlin added a hit, and Matt Tafuri drove home a run with an infield single as the Green Wave advanced to the sectional championship.

The title game on Friday at Brian Fleury Field saw Delbarton save its most impressive offensive performance for last, rolling past DePaul Catholic, 11-1, in six innings to secure the championship trophy.

Ted Masino got the start and was effective over four innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out four. After DePaul loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth inning, reliever Kyle McBride settled down and took care of business. The junior struck out three consecutive batters to escape the jam unscathed before finishing off two scoreless innings of relief. McBride allowed just two hits while striking out four.

The Green Wave offense produced 16 hits and featured contributions throughout the lineup.

Finn O'Loughlin continued his postseason surge, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples and four RBIs. Sal Garcia remained red-hot at the plate, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Matt Tafuri added a 2-for-4 effort with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Lorenzo Maselli collected two hits and drove in two runs.

Masino helped his own cause with a pair of hits and an RBI. Danny Haggard and Curt Friedrich each added hits, while Ethan Yerow reached base twice and scored two runs.

The sectional championship marks another milestone in what has been an outstanding season for the Green Wave, who have relied on strong pitching, timely hitting, and exceptional depth throughout the roster.

Now Delbarton turns its attention to the final challenge of the season. The Green Wave will face St. Augustine Prep in the NJSIAA Non-Public A State Championship Game on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Rutgers University, with a state title on the line.
