On a hot and humid Saturday in West Orange, the Delbarton Green Wave opened the 2022 season with a hard fought loss to Seton Hall Prep 32-27.  

Delbarton had a strong first half led by quarterback Rob Russo '23 and Ryan Trafford '24 on offense.  Trailing 7-0 on the opening drive, the Green Wave responded immediately with a touchdown pass from Russo to Sean McCarthy '23.  Ryan Trafford followed up with two rushing touchdowns in the second quarter, the second of which set up by a John Riley '24 interception, to put the Green Wave up 21-7 with time running out in the first half.  Seton Hall Prep scored a touchdown right before half time to cut the deficit to 21-14, with the Green Wave getting the ball to open the second half.

The second half was back and forth battle and the heat started to take its toll on both teams.  Christian Zebrowski '24 entered the game early in the 3rd quarter when Russo went down with cramps and did a solid job under center.  While trailing Seton Hall Prep 26-21, Zebrowski hit Trafford on a slant route for a 65 yard touchdown, putting Delbarton up 27-26 with just over 5 minutes remaining.  Seton Hall Prep got the ball back with just over a minute left in the game and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 24 seconds left to seal the win. 

Ryan Trafford ('24) finished with 3 touchdowns and tallied 125 yards rushing and 124 yards receiving to highlight an impressive first career start. Rob Russo was 8-14 with 139 yards and a touchdown and Christian Zebrowski ('24) was 4-8 for 86 yards and a touchdown. 

Delbarton returns to action for its home opener on Saturday, September 10 against Bergen Catholic.  Kickoff is set for 1:00pm at Regan Stadium. Roll Wave!
