The Green Wave Soccer team defeated Oratory Prep 4-1 yesterday at Ryan Family Field, advancing to the NJSIAA Non Public A North semifinal on Friday, November 3 vs. Don Bosco.
Delbarton went ahead 1-0 in the 11th minute of play and never turned back, scoring three first-half goals in the victory. Captain
Shea Coughlin '24 converted a penalty kick in the 11th minute, placing a perfect shot to the goalkeeper's lower right side for the 1-0 Delbarton lead. Freshman Player of the Year
Dylan Mazzarella '27 scored his first playoff goal 14 minutes later for the 2-0 lead. Coughlin raced down the right side of the field and found a cutting Mazzarella in the box who redirected the pass by the keeper for the 2-0 Green Wave lead. Right before the end of the first half,
Jack Lobosco would come up with a steal as the Rams tried to clear the ball, and found
Giuseppe Milelli in front of the net who would put a perfectly placed header past the keeper for the 3-1 lead.
Late in the second half,
Liam McElderry would cut to the net down the left side of the field towards the goal line, and ripped a shot past the keeper for the 4-1 insurance goal. Delbarton would put 12 shots on net in the victory and keepers
James Anroman '24 and
Reid Comeaux '24 would combine for two saves in the victory. Â
Next up is a showdown with Don Bosco Prep in the semifinal round of the Non Public A North tournament. Bosco comes into the game as the #4 ranked team, having defeated Newark Academy 1-0 on Tuesday. In the lower bracket, Bergen Catholic and Seton Hall Prep will play for the right to face the winner of Bosco and Delbarton on November 7.
Congrats to the soccer team and best of luck on Friday. Â
