In a dominant performance, the Delbarton Green Wave secured their place in the Morris County Tournament final with a convincing 5-0 victory over Morristown in the semifinals on Saturday, October 19, at Mt. Olive High School.
Delbarton wasted no time asserting their control, with Liam Murphy opening the scoring just five minutes into the match. Murphy capitalized on a pass from Ryan Zangara to give Delbarton an early 1-0 lead.
The second half saw the Green Wave shift into another gear. Liam McElderry doubled the lead in the 45th minute, finishing a well-timed assist from Owen Miller. A minute later, Murphy netted his second of the game off a setup by sophomore Dylan Mazzarella, extending Delbarton's advantage to 3-0.
Owen Miller joined the scoring in the 59th minute, scoring off a pass from Logan Kim to push the lead to 4-0. Ciaran O'Shea capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, finding the back of the net with an assist from Nick Simonetti to seal the 5-0 victory.
Delbarton was clinical on offense, registering 12 shots on goal, while their defense held firm throughout the match. Goalkeeper Sebastian Rubio recorded three saves in the first half, with John Foder keeping a clean sheet as well in the second half.
With this win, Delbarton advances to the Morris County Tournament final against #2 seed Madision this Saturday at 5pm from Roxbury High School.
