Delbarton's Middle School basketball team clinched victory in the GMCJSCA Group 1 County Championship, showcasing teamwork and sharpshooting throughout the tournament held at MacKinnon School in Wharton. With an impressive display of skill and determination, the team dominated all three opponents on their path to the title.
Their journey to the championship began with a big victory over Morris Plains on January 27, winning by a final score of 52-18. The team would not be stopped, continuing their winning streak in the semifinals, facing off against Rockaway Boro. In a competitive game, they emerged victorious with a score of 66-43, earning themselves a well-deserved spot in the Group 1 final.
The tournament final saw Delbarton Middle School go head-to-head with Mendham Boro, where they won with a decisive victory of 72-50. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and talent of the players, as well as the guidance and leadership of their coaches, Mike DelGuercio and Kendall Rogers.
Throughout the season and tournament, key contributors such as Jameson Ebrahim led the team with remarkable performances, while players like Grant Van Raaphorst and Henry Ferro helped anchor a very competitive offense. Additionally, eighth graders Vincent Longo, Peter Wynne, Brian Doherty, and Luke Weldon played pivotal roles in supporting the team's success.
The team's depth and versatility off the bench showed by the contributions of players such as Alex Castellano, Sean Curtis, Hunter Riley, and RJ Readlinger. With a season record of 12-2, Delbarton's Middle School basketball team wrapped up a tremendous season on the court, with a bright future ahead as our 8th graders move onto the freshman program next winter.
