The Delbarton cross country team continued its strong fall campaign on Tuesday, defeating Mendham 20–37 before falling to a talented Morris Knolls squad 37–18. The Green Wave now stand at 4–1 on the season.
Against Mendham, Delbarton locked up the victory with a dominant pack effort. Ryan Leuenberger led the way with a runner-up finish, followed closely by Matthew O'Reilly, Lucien Bret, Todd Smith, and Matthew Fic, who all placed in the top six to secure the team's advantage. Matthew Heyer (10th) and Jonathan Gels (11th) added key depth to round out the win.
Facing Morris Knolls, the Golden Eagles' sweep of the top three spots proved the difference, though Delbarton kept the race competitive with strong scoring runs from Leuenberger, O'Reilly, Bret, Smith, Fic, Heyer, and Gels. Meanwhile, Andy Kapp and Neil Van Kirk both turned in improved times from the season opener. Van Kirk in particular shaved 17 seconds off his previous mark, dropping from 18:49 to 18:32, while Arsh Gupta added to the team's depth with another solid finish.
Next up, the Green Wave head to Holmdel Park on Saturday for the Shore Coaches Invitational before closing out the NJAC dual meet season on Tuesday, October 7.
