On Tuesday, April 8, the Delbarton Spring Track and Field team traveled to Mendham to compete in the first NJAC tri-meet of the year with Chatham as well. Despite wind and cold, the team put their best foot forward and defeated Chatham 84-55 and Mendham 99-41.
Senior
Peter Donini prevailed with double victories in both the shot put and discus, despite the conditions. His discus throw of 179'2 was a massive personal best. Junior
Trevor Wyso scored second in both events, including a personal best 130' discus throw. Senior
Johnathan Flores led the javelin throwers with a win against Chatham and a score against Mendham with his 142' throw. Juniors
Daniel Gallic and
Evan Villoresi also scored big team points.
In the jumps, junior
Martin Hindelong cleared 6' in the high jump to secure a double victory. Junior
Zachary Leach scored points with his second and third place finishes. In the long jump, junior
Aidan Ponzio secured a double victory after a jump off with his 20'8 foot jump. Ponzio also scored in the triple jump. Junior
Alexander Makovsky secured a double victory in the pole vault.
On the track, sophomore
Hans Clovis set the tone in the first event with a double victory in the 400m Hurdles with a new personal best of 1:01.9. Later in the meet he had another double victory in the 200m dash. He also scored in the open 400m.
Senior
Sean Dooley had a double victory in the 800m. Sophomore
Ryan Leuenberger defeated Mendham and scored against Chatham in the 1600m. Sophomore
Joshua Akakpo defeated Mendham and scored against Chatham in the 400m. Senior Joe Sheaffer set up the overall victory by securing crucial team points in the 3200m with a win over Chatham and a score against Mendham.
Immediately after the 3200m, Sheaffer helped to seal the victory with the anchor leg of the 4x400m relay. The winning relay included Akakpo, Parker, and sophomore
Keshav Suri.
