The Delbarton cross country team opened its 2025 season in impressive fashion, sweeping both ends of a tri-meet on Tuesday afternoon. The Green Wave topped Montville, 18–43, and earned a 23–38 victory over Chatham to start the year 2–0.
In the varsity race, Delbarton relied on strong pack running at the front of the field. Ryan Leuenberger and Will Van Etten crossed the line in third and fourth place overall, giving the Green Wave an early advantage. Matthew Fic added a 12th-place finish, while Todd Smith Jr. and Matthew O'Reilly secured critical scoring spots at 14th and 15th, respectively. Rounding out the effort were Lucien Bret (24th), Matthew Heyer (26th), and Josh Akakpo (33rd). Jonathan Gels (41st) and Neil VanKirk (46th) also contributed solid performances for Delbarton's depth.
The Green Wave also shined in the novice race, where junior Hans Clovis broke the tape in a winning time of 9:57.81. Freshmen Ryan Dorfler and Ryan Smith weren't far behind, finishing third and fourth to lock in another dominant showing for the team.
With the two victories, Delbarton moves to 2–0 on the season. The Green Wave will return to action on September 30 when they face Mendham and Morris Knolls in another dual meet.
