After two intense days of competition at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, Delbarton will send seven wrestlers to the state championship finals, putting the Green Wave in position for a memorable finish on the final day of the tournament.
Leading the group is Cameron Sontz, who advances to the finals for the third time in his career. Sontz secured his spot in dominant fashion, earning a fall in the semifinal round, and will face JoJo Burke in the 120-pound final.
At 126 pounds, Tommy Marchetti returns to the championship stage after placing third as a freshman last year. Marchetti battled through a tight semifinal match, earning a 7–6 decision, and will now take on top-seeded Paul Kenny of CBA in the final.
Ryan DeGeorge is headed to the finals for the third time in his career and is seeking his second state title. DeGeorge earned a 4–0 decision in the semifinals to advance to the 144-pound championship match, where he will face No. 1 seed Robert Duffy, also of CBA. The matchup will serve as a rematch of February's Non-Public final, where Duffy claimed a 6–2 decision.
At 150 pounds, Nick Schwartz reached his first state final, delivering an impressive 15–2 major decision in the semifinals. Schwartz will meet top-seed and 2024 state champion Sonny Amato with the title on the line.
Returning champion Jayden James continued his dominant season and postseason run at 165 pounds, earning a 19–4 technical fall in the semifinal round. The three-time finalist will face Ryan Gavrish in the championship match as he looks to capture his second consecutive state title in what will be the final high school match of his career before heading to Penn State next fall.
At 175 pounds, Gabe Logan advanced to his first state final after securing a 12–2 major decision in the semifinals. Logan will take on No. 1 seed Santino Rodriguez of Don Bosco Prep for the championship.
Rounding out the finalists is CJ Betz, who reached his first state championship match at 190 pounds. The top seed edged his semifinal opponent with a 3–2 decision and will face No. 2 seed Nevin Mattessich of Don Bosco in the final. Betz previously defeated Mattessich 5–3 on February 17 during the team tournament. Like James, the championship bout will mark Betz's final match in a Delbarton singlet before continuing his career at Penn next season.
Delbarton also saw strong performances in the placement rounds. Finn Andersen battled through the wrestlebacks to earn 7th place, marking an impressive finish in his first-ever state individual tournament. PJ Terranova (132) and Trevor Jones (157) each placed 6th, with Jones making a deep run that included a semifinal appearance before dropping into the wrestlebacks.
With seven wrestlers set to compete for state titles, Delbarton will take the mat on the final day looking to cap off an outstanding showing on New Jersey's biggest stage.
