Delbarton Wrestling Crowns Three State Champions In Finals At Atlantic City

Delbarton wrestling once again proved why it stands among the nation's elite programs, delivering a dominant performance at the 2026 NJSIAA Individual State Championships inside Boardwalk Hall.

The Green Wave finished the weekend with three state champions and four runners-up, placing seven wrestlers in the finals and showcasing the depth, talent, and consistency that defined their season.

Leading the charge were Delbarton's three state champions, highlighted by CJ Betz, who captured the 190-pound title, his first title in his high school career.  Betz's title run capped a standout senior campaign and added another milestone to his decorated career.

Joining him atop the podium were two-time state champion Jayden James and three-time state champion Cameron Sontz, each continuing their dominance on the state's biggest stage. For James, the victory further cemented his legacy as one of the top wrestlers in program history, while Sontz added yet another title to his already accomplished résumé, one step closer to becoming only the sixth wrestler in state history to win 4 championships.

Adding to his accomplishments this season, James was also named Most Outstanding Wrestler.  James won all of his matches by either technical fall or fall, with only one match going into the second period.  Along with MOW, Delbarton assistant coach Guy Russo earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors and Delbarton was celebrated as the 2026 NJ Wrestling Coach of the Year.

Delbarton's presence was felt throughout the finals, as four additional wrestlers battled their way to championship matches to earn state runner-up finishes. The group of finalists included Tommy Marchetti, Ryan DeGeorge, Nicholas Schwartz, and Gabe Logan, each navigating a grueling bracket to reach the final night under the lights in Atlantic City.

Along with 7 finalists, freshman Finn Andersen took seventh to earn his first podium spot, while PJ Terranova and Trevor Jones finished 6th, both earning spots on the podium as well.

The seven finalists represented one of the strongest overall showings in the state, reinforcing Delbarton's standing as a powerhouse not only in New Jersey but nationally. The program's ability to consistently produce finalists across multiple weight classes speaks to both its talent and its preparation throughout the season thanks to the incredible guidance of Bryan Stoll, Guy Russo and the rest of the coaching staff.

From top to bottom, Delbarton's lineup delivered in Atlantic City, combining experience, depth, and resilience to produce one of the most impressive state tournament showings in school history.
