Delbarton rolled to an emphatic 11–1 victory over Mount Olive on Tuesday, but the afternoon carried even greater significance as head coach Bruce Shatel recorded his 1,000th career win across baseball and hockey—a remarkable milestone that reflects decades of excellence on the bench and in the dugout.
The Green Wave wasted no time taking control, jumping out to a 3–0 lead in the first inning before doubling it in the second. By the end of three, Delbarton had built an 8–0 advantage, showcasing a relentless offensive approach and aggressive baserunning that kept pressure on Mount Olive throughout.
At the center of it all was a dominant performance from Sal Garcia, who delivered one of the most complete offensive games of the season. Garcia finished a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBIs, blasting a three-run home run in the second inning and adding both a double and triple to cap a near cycle. Matt Tafuri set the tone at the top of the lineup, reaching base four times, scoring four runs, and swiping three bases as part of an 11-steal effort for the Green Wave.
Delbarton's lineup stayed productive from top to bottom. Lorenzo Maselli, Finnian O'Loughlin, and Ted Masino each drove in runs, while Fenton Morrissey added an RBI knock and Connor Bresler chipped in with a hit and a run scored. Nolan Bruno contributed with a sacrifice fly to close out the game, as the Green Wave piled up 10 hits and 10 RBIs on the day.
On the mound, Kyle McBride earned the win with a strong outing, striking out six over 3.2 innings while allowing just one unearned run. John Fedun followed with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to close things out and secure the run-rule victory.
Delbarton led 3–0 after one, 6–0 after two, and 8–0 after three, never allowing Mount Olive a chance to climb back into the game.
While the performance on the field was impressive, the day ultimately belonged to Coach Shatel, whose 1,000th career win stands as a testament to his consistency, leadership, and lasting impact on generations of student-athletes at Delbarton.
