Indoor Track Drew University Series Recap

Wayne Gardiner Holiday Relays (12/21/19)- The indoor track season kicked off at the start of winter break with the Wayne Gardiner Holiday Relays, named in honor of longtime Delbarton teacher and track coach Wayne Gardiner.  It was a great opening meet to shake off the cobwebs and for new guys to gain valuable experience. The shuttle hurdle relay team didn't miss a beat and raced to a 4th place finish in 34.02 seconds.  The team consisted of veterans and rookies with seniors Hayden Beumee and Jon Nguyen, junior James Reinke, and sophomore Jeff Cianfrocca.  

Tony Passarelli Invitational (12/23/19)- The second meet of the season is named after longtime Delbarton track coach Tony Passarelli.  This meet had a mixture of relays and individual events. The shuttle hurdle relay of Beumee, Nguyen, Reinke, and Cianfrocca took 2nd place in 34.35 seconds.  Senior Jon Nguyen also qualified for the finals in the 55m dash and placed 2nd in 6.83 seconds. Nguyen also took 5th place in the 300m dash in 38.52 seconds. In the shot put, senior Danny Hajjar took 5th place with a throw of 43 feet and 2.5 inches. Junior Elijah Hills placed 8th with a throw of 40 feet 10.5 inches. Junior Gabe Benz placed 5th in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet.

Cliff Back Invitational (1/2/20)- The Trophy event in honor of Cliff Back was the 55m hurdle race.  Senior Jon Nguyen qualified for the finals with a personal record time of 7.74 seconds and took home the championship trophy with a time of 7.80 seconds. His time is currently the top seed-time in the Non-Public state rankings and the 8th ranked time in all of New Jersey. Jon's time is currently 4th all-time in Delbarton history.  After the trophy presentation, Nguyen jogged down to the starting line and won a very close race in the 55m dash in 6.80 seconds. Senior Hayden Beumee also qualified for the finals in the 55m hurdles and took 3rd in 7.90, the 7th fastest time in Delbarton history. 
Junior Gabe Benz tied for 3rd in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet.  Sophomore Jeff Cianfrocca took 4th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet and 10 inches.  Junior Elijah Hills took 6th in the shot put at 45 feet 3.75 inches. Senior Danny Hajjar placed 7th with a personal record throw of 44 feet 10.5 inches. The 4x400 meter relay concluded the meet with a 6th place finish in 3:51.48 (Nguyen, Beumee, Cianfrocca, and freshman David Collini).

Wayne Valentine Invitational (1/9/20)- Senior Hayden Beumee won the 400m dash in a personal record time of 53.78 seconds.  Sophomore Jeff Cianfrocca had to compete in a jump-off for the high jump championship with a senior rival from Sparta. After several jumps back and forth, Jeff placed 2nd with a leap of 6 feet. Junior Gabe Benz placed 3rd in the pole vault with a jump of 11 feet. The final regular season meet of the year led to lots of great JV performances and personal records for new members of the team.  Junior Dennis Collins ran a personal record time of 4:59.48 in the 1600m, crossing the 5 minute threshold. Junior James Reinke ran a personal record in the 55m hurdles in 8.66 seconds. Junior Pat O'Callaghan cleared a personal record of 9 feet in the pole vault.
