Continuing a busy first week of the indoor season, the Delbarton Winter Track and Field team returned to Ocean Breeze on December 10 to compete in the Lid Lifter Invitational against strong Morris County competition.
The Green Wave saw its biggest scoring contributions from the pole vault, where seniors Alexander Makovsky and Dever Hanlon, along with junior Scott Readlinger, finished third, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
In the throws, senior Trevor Wyso opened his final indoor campaign with an impressive performance in the shot put, advancing through the preliminaries before placing third overall in the finals.
On the track, seniors Aidan Ponzio and Dan Gallic led the way in the 55-meter hurdles, with both advancing to the final. Ponzio capped off the event with a sixth-place finish, crossing the line in 8.32 seconds.
The meet also marked the season debut for several athletes, including many competing in their first-ever indoor meet. With valuable early experience gained, the future looks bright for the Green Wave as the winter season continues.
Delbarton returns to action on Saturday at the Wayne Gardiner Holiday Relays at Drew University, named in honor of longtime Delbarton teacher and coach Wayne Gardiner.
