After winning a state title in 2018, the Delbarton Hockey program has been going through a rebuild, finishing in 2019 and 2020 with .500 records, and finishing last year's COVID-shortened season 3-5-1 and an early exit in the Gordon Cup Playoffs. However, this season, coach
Bruce Shatel brings back a strong core group of upperclassmen, mixed in with talented newcomers, ready to prove themselves.
On defense, the Green Wave have a very strong core, with senior
Ray Berezniak leading the way on the blue line. Sophomores
Dan D'Alessandro and
Julian Brown look to make an immediate impact on defense, along with freshman Daunte Rodriguez, who will make his Green Wave debut this season. In goal, the Green Wave have a major hole to fill, as Brett Cleaves turns over the goaltending duties to junior
Jason Cai.
On offense, Delbarton is led up front by junior
Trip Pendy. Pendy had 5 goals last season, earning conference honorable mention honors.
Kayetan Berezniak,
Nick Faccone,
James Royse,
Jack Genovese,
Jack Olsen,
Tim Galvin and
Max Pendy will anchor the offense along with
Trip Pendy this season. Junior transfer
Duncan Stewart also looks to play a big role at forward in his first season at Delbarton.
While the Gordon Conference looks to once again be a major challenge, Delbarton has the tools on the ice and behind the bench, to return to glory in 2021 and beyond. Delbarton has 3 more scrimmages before the puck drops on the regular season on Friday, November 26 against Bergen Catholic at the Ice House. The Green Wave open its home schedule at Aspen Ice on Tuesday, November 30 against St. Joe's Montvale, before hosting rival CBA on December 7.
Best of luck this season and Go Green Wave!
