The Delbarton varsity hockey team continued its championship tradition on Tuesday night, edging Don Bosco Prep by a score of 3–2 to claim the Gordon Cup title at Codey Arena. With the win, the Green Wave secured their second consecutive Gordon Cup championship and the 11th overall title in program history.
In a matchup of two of the state's top programs, Delbarton responded immediately after Don Bosco opened the scoring, flipping momentum late in the first period. Aidan Pasic scored off a beautiful pass from behind the net from Egor Andreev to knot the game at 1-1. Just before the end of the first, Pasic and Andreev connected again, this time with Pasic providing a perfect feed on a two-on-one, feeding Andreev for teh one-timer to give Delbarton a 2-1 advantage before intermission. The advantage grew in the second period when Sean O'Gwen buried a power-play goal from the point, a strike that would ultimately stand as the game-winner.
Don Bosco made a push early in the third period to close the gap to one, but Delbarton's defense carried the night, keeping the Ironmen off the board for the remaining of the period, despite a very strong push throughout the final 15 minutes. "I've been playing hockey since I was six years old," Goalkeeper Paul Insauto said. "This is by far the best defensive core I have ever, ever played with in my life."
Pasic and Andreev each finished the night with a goal and two assists, continuing their strong postseason play, while Delbarton's collective effort — from special teams to late-game execution — proved decisive. The victory further cements Delbarton's place atop New Jersey high school hockey and sends the Green Wave forward with momentum as they begin their quest for a non public state championship.
