On a beautiful fall afternoon at Regan Stadium, the Green Wave football team erased a 14-0 halftime deficit to defeat Hudson Catholic on Saturday to win its 4th consecutive game by a 21-14 score.
The first half was highlighted by Hudson Catholic's passing attack, which enabled them to go ahead 14-0 going into halftime. The Green Wave offensive line took over the game in the second half. Tim Andersen '23, Brendan Gay '23, Jake Macce '24, Ryan Cregan '24, and Frank Fehrenbach '24 paved the way for the running game, setting the tone for a great comeback victory. Ryan Trafford '24 had his best game of the year on the ground, rushing 25 times for 201 yards and 2 touchdowns. His first touchdown came on the first possession of the second half when he broke though for a 35-yard touchdown, cutting the lead to seven. The defense came alive as momentum turned in Delbarton's favor. Connor Martin '24 led the way for Green Wave defense and spent most of the second half in the Hudson Catholic backfield. Martin finished with a sack and 3 tackles for loss. Justin Slabaugh '23 also added a second half sack. Special teams played a big role in the Green Wave comeback. Jack Eisenhardt '23, along with breaking up passes at outside linebacker, returned two punts into Hudson Catholic territory including one late in the 4th quarter that was aided by a Hudson Catholic facemask penalty to set up the winning Green Wave touchdown. Robert Russo '23 punched in the quarterback sneak from one yard out with 53 seconds left on the clock to put Delbarton up by a 21-14 score. The defense made one last defensive stand, forcing an incomplete pass on the final play of the game, solidifying the victory, bringing the season record to 4-3.
Delbarton will look to keep its winning streak alive Friday night at DePaul Catholic. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm under the lights in Wayne!
