The 2021-22 swim season was a big success, finishing 8-3 with a historic win over powerhouse St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City last January. The team took home 3rd place at the NJSIAA Prep School Championships and
Rob Alexy would win have a first place finish in the 200m free. At the Meet of Champions, Alexy would win his first title, winning the 100 freestyle.
This year, Alexy returns for his senior year, anchoring a very strong Green Wave squad. While the team returns most of its firepower from last year, the team is a bit smaller than year's past, but definitely doesn't lack in quality of talent. There is a very strong group of returning seniors, along with some very promising freshmen making their debuts.
Captaining the team this year are seniors
Rob Alexy and Joeseph Narduzzi. When talking to Coach Patrick Savidge about goals for this season, Savidge says the main goal for the team is to progress further in the state tournament that we have in years past. "The Non-Public A group for swimming is extremely competitive, and we want to keep improving and becoming more of a factor in this competitive field of teams." The other main goal for the team this year is to challenge Chatham for the Morris County title. "They'll be a tough team to beat, but we are ready to step up to the challenge," says Savidge.
Look for the Green Wave to dominate in the sprint freestyle events and the freestyle relays this season. "We are really fortunate to be returning the 100 Freestyle State Champion, Rob Alexy. But we've got a number of sprinters in addition to Rob that are all capable of placing really well in counties and hopefully helping us to have some of the top freestyle relays in the state," says Coach Savidge.
Delbarton opens the swim schedule on Thursday, December 15 against Morristown High School. Meet time is 5pm. Best of luck and Go Green Wave!
