On a beautiful, but very warm September afternoon, the Green Wave opened the 2022 home schedule against national powerhouse Bergen Catholic. Despite a very hard played game, Delbarton fell to Bergen Catholic 21-6.
Bergen Catholic got on the board midway through the first quarter on a 24-yard touchdown pass.
Jack Peros '23 hit the first of his two field goals (27 and 39 yards) late in the second quarter to bring the score to 7-3. That score would reamain thoughout the first half, as both team's defenses came to play!
The Green Wave forced a Bergen Catholic punt on the first drive of the second half, and got into field goal range again for
Jack Peros to hit his second field goal of the game to cut the lead to 7-6. Bergen Catholic responded with a touchdown drive of their own to go up 14-6 late in the third quarter. Tyler Dasilva '24 forced a fumble with a minute left in the quarter and
Matt Gemma '23 recovered, to give the Green Wave possession heading into the fourth. Bergen Catholic forced a punt and proceeded to spring a 68 yard touchdown run on a 4th and 1 play to put the game out of reach.
Delbarton has a quick turnaround this week, traveling to Jersey City for another big SFC matchup with St. Peter's Prep. Kick off is set for 7pm.
