The Green Wave suffered its first loss of the season over the weekend to nationally ranked St. Anthony of Long Island but got back on track Tuesday, defeating Pope John 16-3 at Cocoziello Field.
After a close first quarter, Delbarton took a 2-1 lead into the second, and that is where the Green Wave took over and never looked back. Nick Faccone (Sr., Lafayette) and Ryan Trafford (Jr., Navy) dominated at the face-off X and never let the Lions get a foothold on the game, winning over 80% of the draws and allowing the Green Wave to build a 16-2 lead by the start of the fourth.
The offense was led by Gray Doyle (Sr., Bates) who finished with 2 goals and 4 assists, and TJ Coffey (Sr., Quinnipiac), Bobby Cusimano (Jr.), and Spencer Shea (Sr., Holy Cross) who finished with 3 points each. In the end, it was a very balanced attack with 11 players scoring at least 1 goal, and 13 players getting at least 1 point.
When Pope John did have an opportunity to keep the game close, Charlie Medd (Sr., Williams), Aidan Troy (Sr., Penn), and Patrick Roelke (Jr., Lafayette) shut the door between the pipes combining to only allow 3 goals on 11 shots.
The team continues their home stand this week with games against West Essex on Thursday and Malvern Prep (PA) on Saturday.
