The Delbarton lacrosse team is headed to the Non-Public State Championship game after defeating Don Bosco Prep, 10-4, in the semifinal round on Friday afternoon at Cocoziello Field.
The Green Wave's journey to the championship game began on May 29 with a dominant 15-0 victory over Paul VI in the opening round. With many starters seeing limited action in the second half, Delbarton showcased its depth throughout the lineup.
Chase Houser paced the offense with three goals in the win.
Delbarton followed with another impressive performance in the quarterfinals on June 2, rolling past Pingry, 14-1, at home.
Brandon Fodor led the attack with four goals, while
Jack Sheridan,
Christian Troczynski,
Chase Houser and
Jack Rende each added two goals apiece as the Green Wave secured its spot in the state semifinals.
Friday's semifinal matchup against Don Bosco Prep provided additional motivation for Delbarton, as the Ironmen handed the Green Wave a heartbreaking home playoff loss one year ago. This time, Delbarton left no doubt.
After Bosco scored the game's opening goal, faceoff specialist
Kane Quenault quickly shifted momentum. Quenault won two consecutive faceoffs and took both directly to the cage, scoring back-to-back goals in an 11-second span to give Delbarton a 2-1 advantage.
The Green Wave offense continued to surge, building an 8-2 halftime lead while the defense limited the Ironmen to just one goal in each quarter throughout the contest.
Pierce Bolger led the way with three goals and one assist, while
Brandon Fodor and
Christian Troczynski each scored twice.
Max Holda also found the back of the net as Delbarton completed the 10-4 victory.
Defensively, the Green Wave has been outstanding throughout the postseason. Goalkeeper
Matty McGinty continued his strong playoff run with five saves in the semifinal victory, helping hold one of New Jersey's top programs to just four goals.
With the win, Delbarton advances to the NJSIAA Non-Public State Championship game and will face top-seeded Seton Hall Prep on Tuesday, June 9, at 6:30 p.m. at Kean University. The Green Wave will look to capture another state title in what promises to be one of the premier lacrosse matchups in New Jersey this season.
