Despite battling back late in the fourth quarter, Delbarton fell to Chatham, 12-7, in the Morris County Tournament final Tuesday night.
The Green Wave opened strong, building a 4-2 lead in the second quarter before Chatham responded to even the score by halftime. The Cougars seized momentum in the third, outscoring Delbarton 4-0 to take control heading into the final quarter.
Delbarton showed resilience early in the fourth, winning the opening faceoff and cutting into the deficit on a goal from LSM Max Melchionni. Jesse DeNegri followed with another faceoff win, helping spark goals from Chase Houser and Pierce Bolger as the Green Wave pulled within one, 8-7, with 9:13 remaining.
Chatham answered with a key goal at the 4:15 mark before adding three more in the final 2:25 to secure the county championship.
Delbarton will close out the regular season with games against Fairfield Prep and St. Augustine Prep before beginning state tournament play.
