The Green Wave matched its highest offensive output for the second time this season, defeating West Essex 16-5 on Thursday, April 13 at Cocoziello Field. The win improved the team's record to 2-0 in the Fitch-Pitt division of the NJILL, and its overall record to 4-1.
Sean Diczok (Sr.) started the scoring in the first quarter that saw the Delbarton jump out to a 6-2 lead in which 5 different players scored. In the second quarter, Spencer Shea (Sr., Holy Cross), Gray Doyle (Sr., Bates), TJ Coffey (Sr., Quinnipiac), Jake Melchionni (Sr., Villanova), and Diczok scored 7 more times for the 13-2 halftime lead. It was Coach Kovachik's defensive unit of Julian Radossich (Sr., Fairfield), Corbin Lukanski (Sr., Bucknell), Nick Dotro (Sr., Franklin & Marshall), and John Finkeldie (Jr.) that made a statement in the second period, not allowing a shot on net for West Essex. In fact, the defense did not give up another goal until the fourth quarter and only forced the goalie unit of Charlie Medd, Aidan Troy (Penn), Tanner Shimko (So.), Alec Delgado (Jr.), and Patrick Roelke (Jr., Lafayette) to be tested 10 times all game.
By the end of the day, 14 different Delbarton players had at least 1 point, with Hudson Honeker (Sr.), Brandon Lombardo (Sr.), and Luke Campbell (Jr.) each scoring a goal in the third. Ryan Trafford (Jr., Navy), Nick Faccone (St., Lafayette) and James Zupa were nearly perfect from the X, winning a total of 18 out of 23 faceoffs in the victory.
Delbarton will host nationally ranked Malvern Prep on Saturday, April 15 before the Green Wave travel to take on rival Mountain Lakes on Tuesday, April 18. Game time Wednesday is set for 4:30pm and will be live streamed via Morris Sussex Sports.
