On Saturday, May 13 the varsity baseball team took one more step towards defending its title as Morris County Champions. Aiden Dill (Jr, Seton Hall) threw a complete game shutout to defeat Chatham 3-0 and earn a spot in the championship game next Saturday against West Morris.
Delbarton opened up scoring in the second inning when Griffin Mills (Sr, Northwestern) singled on the first pitch of the at bat, driving in Marco Maselli (Sr. Holy Cross) The Green Wave added two more runs in the 3rd, which would be all the run support Dill would need. Kevin Hager '23 started the inning off with a walk, stole second base, and was driven home by Sal Garcia (Fr, Duke) on an 0-2 single to left field. Garcia then came around to score when Robert Russo (Sr. Villanova) hit a 2-out double to left field.
Dill would take over from there, throwing seven strong innings, where he induced 8 ground outs, striking out 7, and only allowed two runners to reach second base. "I'd say it was pretty good overall," Dill said of his performance. "At times, I felt my control could've been a little bit better, but I battled through. (Chatham) was a good team to face, so I was glad to get the win."
Delbarton returns to Fleury Field today when they host #4 ranked Millburn. The Green Wave will face West Morris in the MCT championship on Saturday night, May 20 at Montville High School. First pitch is set for 7pm.
