Delbarton Rebounds, Earns Two Non-Conference Wins

The Green Wave varsity lacrosse team rebounded nicely this week, taking two non-conference games from Iona Prep of New Rochelle, NY and Mendham.

On Saturday, the varsity lacrosse team faced Iona Prep from New Rochelle, NY in their third game in five days.  The game was part of a 2-game series to benefit People to People NY and Father English Food Pantry in NJ. It was a seesaw game for all four quarters that saw the Green Wave walk away with a 10-8 victory.

The two teams traded goals throughout the game with neither being able to separate from the other. At the half, Delbarton had a 5-4, and a 7-5 lead after the third quarter. Delbarton had four different players pick up 3 points, with Spencer Shea (Sr, Holy Cross) scoring 3 goals, and Gray Doyle (Sr, Bates), Jack Sartorius (Jr), and Sean Diczok (Sr, Loomis Chaffee) adding 1 goal and 2 assists each. Charlie Medd (Sr, Williams) and Aidan Troy (Sr, Penn) combined for the win in the net.

This was Delbarton's first win over an out-of-state opponent this season, and it improved the team's overall record to 13-4.

On Tuesday afternoon the lacrosse team defeated Mendham 11-4 in non-conference action.

In what has been a consistent pattern this year, the Green Wave attack started fast and built a multi-goal lead by halftime, this time taking a 7-2 lead into the half. Delbarton's balanced attack did not allow the Minutemen's defense to key in on any one or two players. Although Gray Doyle (Sr, Bates) and T.J. Coffey (Sr, Quinnipiac) scored two goals apiece, seven other players scored goals, and a total of 13 players picked up a point on the afternoon. Again, staying consistent to form, Nick Faccone (Sr, Lafayette), Ryan Trafford (Jr, Navy), and Jamie Zupa (Jr) dominated at the "X" and never gave Mendham a chance to slow the Green Wave attack down. Patrick Roelke had his first start in net for Delbarton and earned his first varsity win making 10 saves on 14 shots.
