On Thursday the Delbarton Baseball team hosted Randolph in the final NJAC game of the season. Thanks to dominant pitching and timely hitting, the Green Wave won 3-0 and clinched the American Division title of the NJAC.
After a somewhat inconsistent start to the season, Chris Accardo (Sr) took the mound and reminded everyone why he is heading off to Georgetown next year to play baseball. Accardo threw a complete game shutout, striking out 9, while only allowing 2 runners to reach second base on the afternoon.
The Green Wave used a combination of speed and power to score their 3 runs on 6 hits. In the first inning, Jack Harley's (Jr, Rice) triple knocked in Kevin Hager (Sr, Cornell). In the sixth Griffin Mills (Sr, Northwestern) led off the inning with a triple and scored on a throwing error at 3rd base. Aidan Dill (Jr, Seton Hall) then tripled on the next pitch and was driven home when Harley hit a one-out double to right field. On the day, Delbarton hit one double and 3 triples.
Coach Shatel's team will use the next two days to prepare to defend the team's title on Saturday night in the Morris County Tournament final against West Morris. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Montville High School.
