In the final regular season game and tune-up for the state tournament, the lacrosse team hosted #9 ranked and #5 tournament seeded St. Augustine on Wednesday afternoon, coming away with a convincing 10-2 win.
Unlike some previous games when the Green Wave scored early and often, the goals in Wednesday's game were spread out throughout the game. The team defense and ground ball control limited the Hermits to one goal in the first quarter and one goal in the fourth, and the combination of Aidan Troy (Sr, Penn) and Charlie Medd (Sr, Williams) stopped 12 out of 14 shots.Â
The attack was led by Gray Doyle (Sr, Bates) and Willie Doyle (Jr) who combined for 6 goals and an assist. Spencer Shea (Sr, Holy Cross) added 2 goals of his own, Vincent Ferrara (Sr, Gettysburg) and Sean Dczok (Sr, Lafayette) added a goal and an assist each, and Jake Melchionni (Sr, Villanova) dished out 2 assists on transition goals. Corbin Lukanski (Sr, Bucknell) also picked up his first point of the season when he assisted on Diczok's goal.Â
The Green Wave open their state playoff run as the #2Â seed when they host #15 seed Donovan Catholic tomorrow at 11:00 am at Cocoziello Field.
