Varsity Lacrosse Advances to Non Public A Semifinal

On Thursday afternoon, June 1, Delbarton hosted St. Joseph Montvale in the Non-Public A quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA state tournament. On the hottest day of the season, the Green Wave walked off the field with a 6-4 win, punching a ticket to the semifinal round.

Coach Kovachik's team jumped on the board right away when Gray Doyle (Sr, Bates) scored less than two minutes into the game off an assist from Spencer Shea (sr, Holy Cross) who found him cutting to the net. Shea then added the first of his two goals on the afternoon to build a 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Brandon Lombards and Shea added two more goals in the second quarter to head into halftime with a 4-1 lead. The second half turned into a battle of attrition as the heat began to affect both teams. After a third quarter which saw both teams score two goals each and Delbarton jumping to a 6-3 lead.  St. Joes cut the lead to 6-4 in the fourth, but Delbarton's defense closed the door on the Green Knights.

Aidan Troy (Sr, Penn) and Charlie Medd (Sr, Williams) combined for four saves in the win.

With the win, the Green Wave advance to the seminal round of the NJSIAA Non-Public A tournament against Don Bosco. The will take place back on Cocoziello Field next Tuesday afternoon.
