Delbarton returned to Cocoziello field to take on #11 ranked Summit in what may have been the best defensive performance years, shutting out the Hilltoppers 8-0. The shoutout was the first for Kovachik's team since the spring of 2016.
The Green Wave team took the lead less than 1:30 into the game off a goal from Jack Sartorius (Jr, Williams). That was all the support senior goalie Patrick Roelke (Lafayette) and the defense needed. Roelke turned away the Hilltopper's 4 shots in the opening quarter, and the combination of Bo Popham (Jr, Notre Dame), John Finkeldie (Sr, Lafayette), and Gabe Reiter (Sr, Washington & Lee) only allowed six shows the remaining 3 quaters. Not to be outdone by the defense, Delbarton's offense did not let Summit have a chance to get back in the game taking a 3-0 lead into halftime, before adding 5 goals in the second half. Sartorius let the game with 2 goals and 1 assist, followed by Asher Testa (Jr, Colgate) who finished with 2 goals, and Willie Doyle (Sr, Amherst) who added a goal and an assist.
It's back to work today as the begin preparation for a huge match up in Pennsylvania. Delbarton travels to Malvern Prep on Saturday to take on the #3 ranked team in the nation, the second top 10 team for the Green Wave in 7 days.
