Delbarton baseball opened their 2024-25 campaign with a convincing 7-2 over Roxbury on a wet, cold day at Fleury Field.
The Green Wave offense came out swinging scoring 4 runs in the first inning. Matt Taffuri (So) led off with a single which senior Aiden Dill (Sr, Seton Hall) followed with a walk. Sal Garcia (So, Duke) then drove in the game's first run with a single that scored Tafuri. Jack Harley (Sr, Virginia Tech) walked to load the bases and Ryan Holman (Jr) walked to pick up an RBI when Garcia scored. AJ Saccento (So, Duke) then drove in Garcia with a sac fly to center. The final run of the frame came when Miles Handy (Jr) hit into a fielders choice to score Harley. By the end of the day, Tafuri and Garcia finished with 2 hits, and Garcia and Handy collected 2 RBI each.
The 4 runs were all Saccento needed on the mound. He went 5 innings, giving up 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 9, and walking 2. Rhys Shannon (Sr, Tufts) and Christian Zebrowski (Sr, Middlebury) finished the game by throwing 1 inning each while striking out a combined 5 batters.
Delbarton returns to action with another NJAC game at Chatham on Wednesday before heading to play Poly Prep over the weekend.
