Coach John Thompson Achieves Monumental 700th Victory as Green Wave Tennis Dominates Sparta

In a momentous occasion for the Green Wave tennis program, Coach John Thompson secured his 700th coaching victory yesterday in a resounding win against Sparta. The Green Wave squad delivered a flawless performance on Senior Day, clinching a 5-0 victory.

The triumph was marked by outstanding individual performances, showcasing the talent and dedication instilled by Coach Thompson. Jack Gibbons set the tone with an emphatic 6-0, 6-0 victory over Ian Yip. Freshman Adi Somaiya exhibited remarkable resilience, overcoming Graham Mahoney with a hard-fought 4-6, 6-1 (10-3) victory.

Max Orosz maintained the momentum with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win against Andrew Young at third singles. First singles team of Julien Dietrich and Max Lacz displayed exceptional teamwork, securing a solid 6-4, 6-2 victory over the formidable duo of Adam Stefanick and Charlie Conzoneir.

At second singles, Kevin Armstrong and Adi Seth delivered the final punch, overpowering Dev Ranipa and Aidan Harris with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory, further solidifying the Green Wave's dominance on the court.

Following the match, the entire tennis program came together to celebrate Coach Thompson's remarkable achievement. With 24 county titles, 17 state group titles, and a prestigious 2008 TOC championship under his belt, Coach Thompson's impact on the varsity program is nothing short of legendary.

Coach Thompson's accolades extend beyond the court, earning recognition as the Star Ledger Coach of the Year in 2008 and being named Daily Record Coach of the Year three times. His commitment to the sport of tennis has earned him a spot in the NJSIAA Hall of Fame, a testament to his dedication and passion for shaping young athletes into champions.
