The Delbarton varsity tennis team made an impressive run to the finals of the prestigious Newark Academy Tournament, entering as the No. 2 seed.

In the quarterfinals, the Green Wave swept Livingston High School, 5–0, to advance. In the semifinals, Delbarton faced a tough challenge from Episcopal Academy, a strong program from the Philadelphia area. Hudson Bonetti earned a win at second singles, and Hugh Weldon followed with a victory at third singles to even the match at 2–2. With the deciding point on the line, Alex Choi and Dylan Scarpati staged a remarkable comeback at second doubles. After splitting sets, the duo fell behind 5–0 in the decisive super tiebreaker but clawed their way back to win 10–7 and send Delbarton to the final.

The championship match featured a showdown with top-seeded Newark Academy—widely regarded as the best team in New Jersey and one of the top programs in the nation. Despite the tough competition, Delbarton entered the match with confidence and fought hard across all courts. Brayden Bonetti dropped a close battle at first singles against one of the top three players in the state. Both doubles teams competed hard in defeat, while Hugh Weldon narrowly lost a super tiebreaker at third singles.

The highlight of the day came from Hudson Bonetti, who outlasted the top-ranked second singles player in the state in another dramatic super tiebreaker victory. Bonetti continues to deliver heroic performances for the Green Wave while battling through multiple injuries.

Delbarton's gritty showing against elite competition bodes well as the team heads into the Morris County Tournament.
