Delbarton Tennis Earns 2026 Morris County Tournament Title

Delbarton once again proved why it remains the standard in Morris County tennis, capturing the 2026 Morris County Tournament title this weekend in a dramatic, tightly contested finish over Chatham.

Despite winning 23 of the last 24 county championships, nothing came easy for the Green Wave. After semifinal play on Saturday, the two programs were deadlocked at 15-15, setting the stage for a winner-take-all final round. Chatham advanced all five flights to the championship matches, while Delbarton placed four of five after first singles fell in the semifinals to eventual runner-up Davis Zhang.

With the title hanging in the balance, Delbarton delivered where it mattered most.

The Green Wave swept both doubles flights, with Haydn Lee and Hugh Weldon continuing their dominant spring by defeating Aiden Wong and Ranvir Iyengar, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5. The second doubles team of Alex Choi and Chase Eagan followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Chris Allen and Grayson Rivero. In singles play, Aiden Paul secured a key point at second singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Roger Lin, while Adi Somaiya battled through a three-set match to defeat Elias Bruu-Syversen, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.

As the final matches unfolded, the team race remained razor-thin. With only first and third singles still in action, Chatham needed victories in both to complete the upset. Instead, the title was clinched when Mendham's Kabir Kaushal knocked off Zhang at first singles, sealing the championship for Delbarton. Moments later, Somaiya punctuated the win with his decisive third singles victory.

"Every year, people think it's going to be easy for us. But every year, it comes down to one point," said Weldon.  "It comes down to who wants it more. Universal Tennis Rating can mean a lot in other matches, but at counties, it's a battle of wits. Even if it's not the prettiest, we do what we have to to get it done."

In a tournament defined by depth, resilience, and composure under pressure, Delbarton once again found a way—adding another chapter to one of the most dominant runs in county history.
