The Green Wave entered this year's Morris County Tennis Tournament with high hopes of reclaiming another championship. However, they knew the path wouldn't be easy, with tough competition from Chatham—whom they had split matches with during the regular season—and a strong Morris Hills squad.
Delbarton came into the tournament with strong seeding: three No. 1 seeds, one No. 2 seed, and one No. 3 seed across the five flights. The team started strong, with all five positions advancing to the semifinals over the first two days. They found themselves in a three-way tie with Chatham and Morris Hills, both of whom also had all five flights reach the semifinals.
Delbarton's singles players—Brayden Bonetti, Hudson Bonetti, and Hugh Weldon—each advanced to the finals with straight-set wins in the semis. The doubles teams faced tougher challenges: Chase Eagan and Connor Pertusi fell in straight sets to an inspired Madison duo at first doubles, while Dylan Scarpati and Alex Choi lost a hard-fought match in a third-set super tiebreaker against Morris Hills at second doubles.
With both doubles teams eliminated, Delbarton's title hopes seemed in jeopardy. But the tide turned when Chatham's second and third singles players lost to Morris Hills in the semis. That set up a dramatic final day, with Delbarton, Chatham, and Morris Hills each entering the finals with 18 team points (one point awarded for each match win per flight).
Delbarton's path to victory was clear: sweep the singles finals to clinch the championship outright. Anything less, would mean a share of the county title.
Hudson Bonetti got the Green Wave off to a dominant start, blanking Morris Hills' Yash Gupta 6-0, 6-0—completing the tournament without dropping a single game. Brayden Bonetti followed with a gritty straight-sets win over Chatham's top player Davis Zhang, securing at least a share of the title for Delbarton. That left only Hugh Weldon still on court, with the championship hanging in the balance.
Weldon rose to the occasion, defeating Veer Gupta of Morris Hills in straight sets to seal the team title. Though Chatham captured both doubles finals and finished just one point behind, it was Delbarton who took home the hardware once again.
It was a nail-biter, but the Green Wave showed their trademark resilience, never backing down even when the odds seemed stacked against them Saturday morning. With this victory, Delbarton has now won 23 of the last 24 Morris County Tournament titles. Chatham finished second, with Morris Hills in third.
Next, the Green Wave turns its focus to the state tournament, where they earned the No. 3 seed in a competitive Non-Public A bracket. In the NJSIAA Individual Tournament, Brayden Bonetti was seeded 9–16 in singles, with Hudson Bonetti seeded 17–24—marking one of the rare occasions Delbarton has had two seeded singles players since the days of Michael Zheng and John Walentowicz. In doubles, the first doubles team of Chase Eagan and Connor Pertusi earned a 17–24 seed.
