In a dominating performance at FDU last night, the Delbarton Green Wave lacrosse team clinched their 20th Morris County Tournament Championship with a resounding 17-7 victory over the Chatham Cougars. This victory marks Delbarton's second consecutive county title, solidifying their dominance in the region.
Delbarton set the tone early, with a high-energy first quarter that saw them leading 7-2. Their offensive attack continued in the second quarter, adding five more goals to take a commanding 12-4 lead into halftime. The third quarter saw the Green Wave's defense step up, shutting out the Cougars 3-0 and effectively putting the game out of reach.
The Green Wave's offensive prowess was on full display, with eleven different players finding the back of the net. Leading the charge were Jack Sartorious (MCT MVP), Andrew Johnson, and Asher Testa, each scoring three goals. Their balanced attack kept Chatham's defense on their heels and showcased Delbarton's depth and versatility.
Key to Delbarton's dominant performance was their control of possession, thanks to the exceptional faceoff work by Ryan Trafford, Christian Troczynski, and James Zupa. The trio won all but one faceoff, ensuring the Green Wave maintained control for the majority of the game and limiting Chatham's opportunities to mount a comeback.
In goal, Patrick Roelke and Alec Delgado combined to secure the win. Roelke started strong, allowing just four goals and making one save, while Delgado closed out the game with three saves in the fourth quarter, preventing any late surge from the Cougars.
Additional scoring contributions came from James Olsen, Alex Schobel, Luke Carrillo, Bobby Cusimano, Will McGinty, Ryan Trafford, Will Pedicano, and Gavin Romweber, highlighting the team's depth and unselfish play.
As they celebrate their 20th county championship, the Green Wave continue their push towards the Non Public A tournament, set to begin in the coming weeks.
