Delbarton Football Opens 2024 Season With A Statement Win Over Iona Prep

Delbarton opened its 2024 football campaign with a commanding 34-7 victory over Iona Prep, showcasing a balanced and explosive offensive attack, mostly in the air. Quarterback Jadon Prinzivalli was the standout performer, completing 16 of 23 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns. His connection with wide receiver Phillip Folmar was lethal all Saturday afternoon, as Folmar hauled in six receptions for 238 yards and three touchdowns, including a spectacular 96-yard score that electrified the home crowd at Regan Stadium.  "It was a great day," Folmar said. "I didn't know I had that many yards. It didn't feel like it. I was just playing football and doing it for the guys."

On the ground, senior back Brock Dandridge added to the offensive fireworks with 84 rushing yards on nine carries, highlighted by a 46-yard touchdown run. This balanced offensive effort kept Iona Prep's defense on their heels all afternoon.

Defensively, Delbarton was just as dominant, limiting Iona Prep to a single touchdown. The Green Wave defense was relentless, with key contributions from players like Kyle Checchio, who led the team with nine tackles, including three for a loss. The defensive unit also forced a crucial interception from freshman safey Chaz Cusimano, further stifling Iona Prep's attempts to mount any comeback.

"We have a lot of guys that have earned their stripes through the years, and have their opportunity. Some are seniors,"  Coach Bowers said after the victory on Saturday. " They know this is a special opportunity like Jadon. He's waited his turn, but he didn't just wait around. He worked on his craft and now it's his opportunity as a senior and he's running like he's a three-year veteran. That makes us very happy to see because that means we have team guys."

This victory not only extends Delbarton's home win streak to six games but also sets the tone for a season filled with high expectations. The Green Wave will look to build on this momentum when they host Malvern Prep next week, aiming to continue their winning ways and solidify their position as one of New Jersey's top high school football teams.
