Delbarton Swimming Claims Second at Morris County Championships

On Saturday, January 18th, the Delbarton swim team traveled to Morristown High School for the 2025 Morris County Championships, delivering an impressive performance to secure second place overall with 189 points. The Green Wave showcased depth and talent, improving on last year's results and narrowing the gap to first-place Chatham, who scored 299 points.

Leading the charge was junior co-captain Dalton Brooks '26, who became a county champion for the first time in his Delbarton career. Brooks won the 200m IM with a dominant performance, touching the wall in 2:10.88—over two seconds ahead of the runner-up. He followed up with a third-place finish in the 100m Breaststroke, clocking in at 1:07.33. These results marked a significant improvement from his 2024 performances, cementing Brooks as one of the top swimmers in Morris County.

Freshman Anderson Ruhnke '28 made a splash in his county debut, claiming second in the 200m Freestyle with a time of 1:59.42. Ruhnke also placed seventh in the 400m Freestyle, finishing in 4:17.70 and adding valuable points for the Green Wave. Sophomore Kenny East '27 joined Ruhnke in both events, earning fifth in the 200m Freestyle (2:01.45) and an impressive fourth in the 400m Freestyle with a time of 4:14.83—an improvement from his eighth-place finish last year.

Sophomore Dom Narduzzi '27 excelled in the sprint freestyle events, taking third place in both the 50m Freestyle (24.06) and 100m Freestyle (54.14). Narduzzi's results marked significant drops from his 2024 times, demonstrating his continued growth as a competitor. Freshman Max Ciechanowski '28 also shined in the sprints, placing fourth in the 50m Freestyle (24.15) and earning second in the 100m Freestyle with a 53.63.

Additional standout performances came from junior Finn Maguire '26, who dropped 1.3 seconds off his seed time to place 12th in the 50m Freestyle with a 26.32, and freshman Leo Backus '28, who finished 10th in the 200m IM with a time of 2:29.24.

Delbarton's 189 points marked an improvement from the 173 points scored at the 2024 championships, signaling the team's upward trajectory. The Green Wave will now turn their attention to their regular season finale against Randolph on Thursday, January 23rd, before gearing up for the Non-Public North tournament.

With strong swims, personal bests, and rising stars, Delbarton Swimming continues to make waves in Morris County.
