Swimming Sets Three School Records at Meet of Champions

On Saturday, February 1st, and Sunday, February 2nd, six members of the Delbarton Varsity Swim Team traveled to Gloucester County Institute of Technology to compete in the NJ Meet of Champions, facing off against the top swimmers in the state.

The preliminary session took place on Saturday, with individuals and relays competing for a spot in the Top 8 to qualify for Sunday's finals. Delbarton started strong, breaking the school record in the 200-yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:35.22, securing a 4th place finish in the prelims. The team—Dom Narduzzi '27, Dalton Brooks '26, Femi Oshodi '26, and Max Ciechanowski '28—shattered the previous record of 1:36.52, set in 2018 by Jon Hua '18, Ryan Park '21, Justin Yang '18, and Jack Alexy '21.

Later, the same relay team broke another school record in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, finishing in 1:26.29 and surpassing the previous record of 1:26.59, set in 2019 by Thomas Shepanzyk '19, Max Alexy '19, Ryan Park '21, and Jack Alexy '21. This performance earned them the third seed heading into Sunday's finals. In the final event of the day, the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, Anderson Ruhnke '28 joined Narduzzi, Brooks, and Ciechanowski to place 6th and secure a spot in the finals.

On Sunday, all three relays added a fraction of a second but still delivered strong performances, finishing 4th in the 200 Medley Relay and 6th in both the 200 and 400 Freestyle Relays.

Five swimmers also competed in individual events. Brooks placed 9th in the 200-yard IM, just missing the finals. In the 50-yard Freestyle, Narduzzi placed 10th with a time of 21.61, while Ciechanowski finished 14th with a 21.64—making him the fastest freshman in the event. In the 100-yard Butterfly, Oshodi broke his own Delbarton school record with a time of 50.69, finishing 6th in prelims before placing 8th in the state on Sunday. Rounding out the individual swims, Kenny East '27 dropped over two seconds in the 500-yard Freestyle, finishing 22nd with a time of 4:49.85.

It was a fantastic way to cap off a successful season for the Green Wave!
