The Green Wave wrestling team continued its march toward a state championship with a commanding 45-17 victory over St. John Vianney in the Non-Public A semifinals on Thursday night. Delbarton won nine of the last 11 bouts to secure the win and punch its ticket to the state final once again.
Despite an early setback at 126 pounds, where St. John Vianney's Anthony Knox secured a technical fall, Delbarton responded with resilience. Ryan DeGeorge earned a thrilling 2-1 victory in a tiebreaker at 132, setting the tone for the Green Wave's comeback. Chase Quenault followed up with a lightning-fast pin in just 17 seconds at 138 pounds, giving Delbarton its first lead of the night.
After St. John Vianney momentarily cut into the deficit with a decision at 144, Delbarton's powerhouse lineup took control. Jayden James (150) pinned his opponent in 1:15, and Alessio Perentin (165) dominated with a technical fall (24-8). Jesse DeNegri (175) and Carl Betz (190) continued the momentum, with Betz securing another tech fall (19-4) in his return to the lineup.
Elbrus Majagah (215) delivered a statement with a pin in under a minute, pushing Delbarton's lead to 34-11. While St. John Vianney managed a pin at heavyweight, Delbarton closed strong with three straight wins. Cameron Sontz (113) notched another tech fall, and Tommy Marchetti (120) sealed the victory with a gritty 1-0 decision.
With the 45-17 win, Delbarton moves on to the Non-Public A state final, where they'll look to cap off their season with championship glory. Once again, they will face St. Joe's Regional, who defeatd St. Peter's Prep to earn a spot in the NPA Final. The match is set for 2:30pm from Jersey Mike's Arena at Rutgers University. Tickets can be purchased at https://scarletknights.evenue.net/events/HSWR.
