Delbarton Dominates District 9 Tournament with Historic Clean Sweep

The Delbarton wrestling team delivered a historic performance at the District 9 tournament, hosted by Randolph, by winning all 14 weight class brackets. The Green Wave scored an impressive 351.5 points, leaving Bloomfield (119 points) and West Morris (115 points) far behind in the standings.

Several Green Wave wrestlers put forth dominant performances to claim their district titles. In the 144-pound finals, second-seeded Nick Schwartz secured a commanding 12-0 major decision victory over top-seeded Anthony Moreno of St. Mary. At 175 pounds, Jesse DeNegri, also a two-seed, overwhelmed top-seeded Samuel Noel (Orange) with a 19-2 technical fall. In the heavyweight division, August Moser continued his sensational season, narrowly defeating Bloomfield's Gabe McCulloch with a hard-fought 2-1 decision.

Peter Terranova (106) cruised to a 19-3 technical fall over Mendham's Aidan Reilly, while Cameron Sontz (113) kept his perfect season intact with a dominant 21-6 technical fall over David DeFilippis.

At 120 pounds, Tommy Marchetti claimed his first title with an 18-1 technical fall over Bloomfield's Aidan Matias. Braden Jones followed with another tech fall, defeating Nathaniel Boyd (Lyndhurst/North Arlington) in the 126-pound final, winning his first district title. Ryan DeGeorge continued the trend, securing a 15-0 tech fall over Mendham's Rafe Fonte in the 132-pound championship bout.

Chase Quenault dominated Mason Pierce (Randolph) in the 138-pound final, winning by an 18-3 technical fall. Jayden James remained undefeated at 35-0, pinning St. Mary's Alfredo Bermudez to claim the 150-pound title. Trevor Jones overwhelmed Abraham Martinez with a technical fall in the 157-pound final, while Alessio Perentin notched a 21-5 tech fall over Emmanuel Samaniego (Randolph) at 165 pounds.

In the upper weight classes, CJ Betz captured the 190-pound championship with a technical fall over Alejandro Valencia (Bloomfield). Elbrus Majagah secured an 8-1 decision over Mendham's Ralph Langone in the 215-pound final.

This historic sweep saw Perentin and Quenault become four-time district champions. James claimed his third district title, while Betz, Sontz, DeGeorge, and Terranova each earned their second championship victories. With 14 champions, Delbarton set a new school and New Jersey record this weekend as all their starters head to West Orange for Region 3 action starting this Friday.
